When to Take Newborn Pictures?

One of the most common questions new parents ask is: “When is the best time to take newborn pictures?” At Lovelee Photography, we specialize in capturing those fleeting, sleepy, snuggly moments of your baby’s earliest days — and timing is everything.
📸 The Sweet Spot: 5 to 15 Days Old
For the most classic newborn poses — think curled-up, sleepy, and swaddled — the ideal window for a newborn photo session is between 5 and 15 days after birth. During this time:
Babies sleep more soundly and deeply
They’re still naturally curled from the womb
Skin tone has typically settled
They are more tolerant of gentle posing and being wrapped
These early days fly by, so it's best to book your session while you’re still pregnant to ensure availability during this precious window.
🍼 What If My Baby Is Older Than 15 Days?
Don’t worry — it’s never too late to capture beautiful images of your baby. After 2–3 weeks, babies tend to be more alert and less curled up, but that just means we get a different kind of magic:
More open-eyed photos
Sweet yawns and stretches
Natural snuggles with parents and siblings
At Lovelee Photography, we offer flexible newborn photography packages tailored to your baby’s age and your unique preferences.
💡 Tips to Prepare for Your Newborn Session
To make the most of your baby’s session:
Book in advance, ideally during your second or third trimester
Try to feed baby just before your session to keep them sleepy and content
Dress baby in easy-to-remove clothing
Don’t stress — I provide all the props, wraps, and cozy touches!
